Patrick O’Connor brings more than a dozen years’ experience as a reporter covering Congress and American politics to his work helping clients navigate an increasingly volatile media environment.

 

Before founding Narrative Strategies and the CGCN Group’s Strategic Communications practice, Patrick was one of the Wall Street Journal’s lead reporters on the 2012 and 2016 presidential campaigns. Patrick also covered Congress and congressional campaigns for the paper, winning a distinguished New York Press Club award for his reporting on the 2014 midterm elections. Throughout his tenure at the Journal, Patrick was deeply involved in reporting and writing the prestigious Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll.

 

Patrick also reported for Bloomberg News, POLITICO, and The Hill newspaper. Patrick was an original member of the POLITICO team, working alongside its founders in the months before the publication launched. As a congressional reporter, Patrick covered the transition to Democratic control in 2007 and the return of a Republican majority in 2011.

 

Along the way, Patrick reported on a number of high-level policy fights, including passage of the Affordable Care Act, the Dodd-Frank financial-market reforms, and the Troubled Asset Relief Program in 2008. Patrick began his career in sports television, arriving in Washington in the fall of 2001 to help start the ESPN hit “Pardon the Interruption.”
