Narrative Adds Top Youngkin Communications Strategist Devin O’Malley

Former Spokesperson to the Vice President and Treasury Official Devin O’Malley

Joins Narrative as Managing Director

Washington, DC – Narrative Strategies (Narrative) announced today that it continues to expand its team with the addition of Devin O’Malley. O’Malley previously served as a top communications aide to Virginia Governor-Elect Glenn Youngkin’s (R) campaign, which The New York Times called “a remarkable upset” that “will be reverse-engineered for its lessons by both parties.” O’Malley will join Narrative as Managing Director and represents a growing slate of senior talent at the bipartisan firm. Tyler Hernandez, Communications Director for Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), and Christine Hennessey, Communications Director for Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE), joined Narrative earlier this year.

“Our goal at Narrative is to attract and retain top talent to best serve our clients, and Devin’s talent is undeniable,” said Narrative Strategies Founding Partner Ken Spain. “Devin helped the Youngkin campaign pull off one of the most impressive political victories in recent memory by delivering messages that resonated with often-disparate constituencies, focusing on the kitchen-table issues that decided the race. He will now apply that talent and the lessons he learned on the campaign to help our clients craft a winning narrative. He brings expertise on healthcare issues from serving on the White House’s COVID Task Force, deep knowledge of the financial services industry from his time at the Department of the Treasury, and an understanding of high-level legal issues from his stint at the Department of Justice. Devin will be a pivotal player in helping clients build influential coalitions around their issues.”

O’Malley previously served as press secretary to former Vice President Mike Pence and as special advisor to the vice president on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, where he helped the administration navigate the most challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also served as principal deputy to the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and as principal deputy director for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Public Affairs.

A Washington & Jefferson College graduate, O’Malley previously advised political and commercial clients on targeting and messaging at analytics firm i360. He started his career with Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) and went on to serve as deputy campaign manager for Sen. Tom Cotton’s (R-AR) closely watched election in 2014.
